Bamidele Fawehinmi, aged 33, has been sentenced to prison following the brutal abuse and manslaughter of a vulnerable 55-year-old man, Dimitrios Tsavdaris, in Essex. The victim, also known as Jimmy, suffered weeks of violent mistreatment and forced labour before being abandoned to die inside a flat in Hackney.
Fawehinmi subjected Dimitrios to prolonged abuse in Wickford, Essex. During this time, Dimitrios was forced to sleep in a garage alongside dogs and compelled to work long hours delivering drugs. This violent treatment left Dimitrios severely beaten and traumatised.
On 26 January 2024, Fawehinmi drove the injured Dimitrios to a flat on Lansdowne Drive, Hackney. He then locked Dimitrios inside and left him there. Dimitrios was discovered dead three days later with a fractured skull, a result of the sustained violence he endured.
After the incident, Fawehinmi attempted to evade justice by trying to flee the country to Nigeria. However, he was promptly arrested and brought to trial. He was convicted on multiple charges, including manslaughter, which led to his imprisonment.
This case highlights the severe consequences of violent abuse against vulnerable individuals. It also emphasises law enforcement’s commitment to protecting those at risk and prosecuting offenders to ensure justice is served.
