A West Kingsdown homeowner has been hailed a hero after pulling a driver from a wrecked car moments before it erupted into flames in the early hours of Saturday.

At around 5am on Hever Avenue, a car smashed into street lamps and a wall in a shocking crash described by locals as sounding like a “bomb going off.” The quick-thinking resident leapt out of bed after hearing the noise and dragged the driver to safety just before the vehicle burst into a fireball.

Paramedics treated the injured driver at the scene before rushing him to hospital. The driver claims he swerved to avoid a motorbike that was riding on the wrong side of the road.

Several lamp posts were damaged in the collision and are now being secured by UK Power. Kent Police have launched an investigation and are seeking witnesses.
