A major crash has caused the A2 eastbound to be shut between Ebbsfleet and Gravesend. The closure extends from the A2260 near Ebbsfleet to the A227 in Gravesend after a serious multi-vehicle collision.
Emergency teams including ambulance services, fire crews, and Kent Police are currently at the scene managing the incident.
Drivers heading coastbound are facing significant delays due to the closure. Authorities have put in place an official diversion route to help motorists avoid the affected section of the A2.
The recommended detour is as follows: Leave the A2 at B259 North Fleet and take B239 Watling Street east to the South Fleet Road roundabout. Then take the second exit onto B259 Watling Street, staying in lane 1 to reach the A2260 Hall Road junction. From there, head north on Hall Road to the Springhead Road roundabout. Exit onto Hall Road eastbound, then turn southeast onto Coldharbour Road to reach the A227 Wrotham Road roundabout. Join the A227 southbound, pass under the A2, and use the next roundabout to rejoin the A2 coastbound.
It is important to note that drivers can still access the A2 coastbound at the Pepperhill Interchange.
Road users in the area should plan ahead and expect heavy traffic and serious delays. Extra travel time is advised, or consider alternative routes to avoid the congestion caused by the crash.
