Just before 10pm on March 16, police responded to a report of a brazen handbag snatch on Winchester Road. A nonagenarian woman was attacked and injured during the incident.
The victim, who was walking eastbound with a friend, was approached by two strangers. The pair grabbed her burgundy handbag directly from her lap, causing her to fall into the road. She sustained cuts and bruises to her head, face, arm, and hand.
Fortunately, her injuries are not life-threatening, but she was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
Two suspects, described as slim and about 5ft 5ins tall, fled the scene on foot. One was wearing dark clothing, while the other wore light clothes and had a hood up.
Police have launched inquiries and are urging anyone with dash cam or doorbell footage to come forward. Witnesses who saw two suspicious individuals around Winchester Road or Botley Road are also encouraged to contact the authorities.
A police spokesperson said, “Do you have dash cam or doorbell footage that could help? Perhaps you saw two people matching the description? Maybe you witnessed moments around the robbery?”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting reference 44230106295. Tips can also be submitted online or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
