A 17-year-old boy from Seaford has been charged after an attempted moped theft on Princes Road, Eastbourne. The incident occurred around 11pm on Tuesday, prompting police to respond to the scene.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faces multiple charges including taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, driving while disqualified, driving without the proper licence, using a vehicle without third-party insurance on a public road, and possession of a Class B controlled drug – cannabis.

He has been released on conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Hastings Youth Court on Monday 20 March.

Police Constable Marcus Cox from Eastbourne’s Criminal Investigation Department has urged local residents to remain vigilant amid a rise in motorbike thefts. “We have seen a spate of thefts and attempted thefts of motorbikes in Eastbourne over recent weeks,” he said. “We are asking the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour to us.”

Information can be reported via the police non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, the independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
