A major crash between a car and a motorcycle has forced the closure of the A2 near Dover, causing significant disruption for rush-hour commuters.
The collision occurred on the London-bound carriageway of the A2, between the Whitfield roundabout and Coldred Hill junction in Lydden, just outside Dover. The incident took place at approximately 5:35pm, resulting in the closure of both lanes on this important route.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene of the serious collision. An air ambulance was dispatched but has since returned to base. All traffic was stopped while the area was cleared to allow emergency responders to work safely.
Commuters travelling eastbound experienced heavy delays and slow-moving traffic as vehicles navigated past the crash site. The involved vehicles, including a blue Yamaha 125 motorcycle and a car, were moved to the roadside to enable limited traffic flow on the A2.
Highways England confirmed that the closure extended from the A260 near Aylesham to the A256 near Whitfield due to the serious crash involving the motorcycle. Although local diversions have been put in place, National Highways has not announced any specific alternative routes at this time.
Traffic is expected to return to normal between 9:30pm and 9:45pm, depending on the progress of police investigations and the cleanup operation.
The condition of those involved in the collision remains unknown. Ambulance services have been contacted for updates. Authorities continue to investigate the cause and consequences of the crash, and more details will be provided as they become available.
