Travellers on the A3 Hindhead Tunnel are facing significant disruption today as the southbound lane remains closed following a technical glitch. The issue has caused the traffic lights and barriers to fail, leading to a complete shutdown of the southbound tunnel.
Drivers are advised to follow the solid triangle diversion signs to navigate around the closure. The official detour route is as follows: exit the A3 southbound at Stag Hill interchange (Hogs Back) and join the A31 towards Farnham. Continue along the A31 for approximately 7 miles to the Shepherd and Flock roundabout. Take the first exit onto the A31 Farnham Bypass. At the B3001 junction, cross over to the roundabout at the A31/A325. Then take the first exit onto the A325 and follow it to Longmoor Interchange. Cross the roundabout and re-join the A3 southbound at the Longmoor on-slip.
Motorists should anticipate delays and allow extra travel time while the diversion is in place.
Engineers are currently on site working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. However, until repairs are complete, drivers must adhere to the diversion and avoid the tunnel closure.
