A protest near Green Lanes and Stanhope Gardens, N4, was shut down by police last night following an arrest. The Metropolitan Police intervened, enforcing strict dispersal rules under the Public Order Act and making one arrest.
At around 7pm, officers detained a man suspected of supporting a banned terrorist organisation. The arrest came after chanting was heard during the protest. The man remains in custody as inquiries continue.
Concerned about public order, police used Section 14 of the Public Order Act to impose a curfew on the protest, requiring it to end by 8pm. Protesters were warned to disperse or face arrest. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said, “Officers engaged with participants to explain the conditions, ensuring public safety and maintaining order.”
The crowd dispersed peacefully by the deadline. Police pledged to monitor the area overnight and in the coming days to reassure local residents.
Authorities encouraged the community to cooperate with police and report any concerns. Officials emphasised their commitment to balancing public safety with the right to peaceful protest.
