Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) in Oldham are intensifying efforts to combat illegal off-road biking. On Saturday, 3 May 2025, PCSOs Quarmby and Taylor confiscated an illegal off-road bike at the busy junction of Frederick Street and Chamber Road at approximately 5:15pm.
The officers acted under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act, which permits the removal of uninsured or illegally operated vehicles from public spaces. This seizure is part of a broader initiative to address dangerous and unlawful riding on public roads and pavements.
Illegal off-road motorbiking has increasingly disrupted the lives of Oldham residents. There have been numerous complaints concerning noise pollution, anti-social behaviour, and safety risks. Local people have expressed frustration over riders speeding through streets and parks, endangering public safety.
A spokesperson for the local policing team stated, “We are committed to making our streets safer and will not hesitate to take action against anyone riding illegally.” The police encourage the public to report any incidents of illegal off-road biking promptly.
Residents can report illegal off-road biking by calling 101 or visiting the Greater Manchester Police website. These measures aim to help reduce this growing problem and improve community safety.
