A 17-year-old girl was brutally attacked in broad daylight on Saturday, July 19. Around 6:05am, she was sexually assaulted on the platform at Woolwich Arsenal railway station.
Police report that a man approached the teenager before they both boarded a Thameslink train heading to Abbey Wood.
Just minutes after the train departed Woolwich Arsenal, the suspect raped the girl in a carriage toilet. The attacker then fled the train at Abbey Wood station, leaving the victim to continue alone to Slade Green, where she reported the horrific crime.
On July 24, British Transport Police arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of rape. He has since been released on bail while the investigation continues.
Authorities are urgently appealing to anyone who saw the pair together on the platform or on the train to come forward. A BTP spokesperson said, “We want to speak to anyone who may have seen the man and teenage girl at Woolwich Arsenal station or later on the train.”
