Issa Muvunyi, 27, from Bradford, was jailed for over six years after a dramatic police stop revealed a van loaded with £200,000 worth of high-purity cocaine. The incident occurred on November 8 last year when West Yorkshire Police’s Proactive Intercept Team attempted to stop Muvunyi on Stanningley Bypass, Pudsey.
During the stop, Muvunyi tried to ram the lead police vehicle in an effort to break free from a box-in manoeuvre. Although he caused damage to the police car, he ultimately failed to escape.
When officers searched Muvunyi’s van, they found an unsealed pink cardboard box containing three tightly wrapped packages. Tests later confirmed the packages contained three kilograms of Class A cocaine, with purity levels ranging between 73% and 89%. This represents a significant seizure in the ongoing fight against drug crime in the region.
Muvunyi was charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine and dangerous driving. He pleaded guilty at Leeds Crown Court and was sentenced to six years and five months for the drug offence, along with a concurrent seven-month sentence for dangerous driving.
Detective Inspector Vicky Vessey commented on the case, saying: “Our roads policing team’s sharp work stopped a serious Class A supply before it hit the streets. This kind of illegal drug trade feeds violent crime and wrecks communities and lives.”
She added, “We hope Muvunyi’s hefty sentence sends a clear warning to others tempted by this dangerous lifestyle.”
