A 23-year-old man from Gillingham, Kent, Mohammad Malik, has been convicted for sharing terrorist content across social media platforms.

Mohammad Malik was found guilty at Winchester Crown Court of two counts of disseminating terrorist publications and two counts of expressing support for a banned organisation. However, he was cleared of possessing terrorist materials and another charge of dissemination after a four-week trial.

Malik had denied all charges but came under investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) following reports that he shared videos from various Islamist groups. A police raid on 14 January 2025 uncovered Malik’s phone, computer, hard drives, swords, knives, and a homemade Daesh flag.

Detective Chief Superintendent Claire Finlay, head of CTPSE, issued a warning about Malik’s actions. She stated, “Malik shared a number of extremely graphic videos online, including some content produced by the media wing of Daesh. The videos, some of which he edited himself, glorified the actions of proscribed terrorist groups and terrorist attacks. Some content was antisemitic, featuring chilling footage of executions and beheadings. His actions could have encouraged or assisted others to engage in terrorism.”

Sentencing for Mohammad Malik will be announced at a later date.
