A Lithuanian lorry driver has been charged following the seizure of £6.8 million worth of cocaine in Liverpool. Edgaras Slusnys, aged 37, was caught during a high-profile sting operation carried out by the National Crime Agency (NCA).
On the evening of September 23, NCA officers, working in partnership with Border Force, stopped Slusnys as he was driving a lorry registered to a haulage company based in Northern Ireland. A detailed search of the vehicle uncovered a large quantity of Class A drugs concealed inside.
Slusnys was promptly charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. He appeared before Liverpool Magistrates Court on September 25 and was remanded in custody. His next court hearing is set for October 23 at Liverpool Crown Court.
NCA Branch Commander David Cunningham described the seizure as a major setback for organised crime. He stated, “This seizure has dealt a significant blow to an organised crime gang, and removed a substantial quantity of dangerous drugs from the streets. The investigation continues to identify and bring to justice all those involved.”
