Powhatan County residents are urged to remain indoors this Thursday afternoon as law enforcement officers search for a dangerous armed felon on the loose.

At 3:46pm on July 11, the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office issued an order for everyone near 4900 Cartersville Road to stay inside due to ongoing law enforcement activity. Simultaneously, residents in Goochland County’s Rock Castle and West View areas were also advised to shelter in place as a precautionary measure.

The sheriff’s office provided an update at 4:08pm identifying the suspect as 36-year-old Chazz Lee Gordon from Powhatan. Gordon initiated a police chase after fleeing a felony traffic stop. The pursuit concluded near Cartersville Road, where Gordon reportedly exited his vehicle armed with a pistol and disappeared into the nearby woods.

Authorities from multiple counties, including Chesterfield, have joined the manhunt to locate Gordon.

Gordon is wanted on charges of malicious wounding, firearm possession as a convicted felon, and brandishing a weapon. He is described as a 6’2” Black man weighing approximately 175 lbs. He was last seen wearing a tank top and grey pants.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings immediately. If you have any information, contact the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office at 804-598-5656. If you spot Gordon or notice anything suspicious, call 911 without delay.
