A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Lowestoft.
The Ambulance Service alerted police following reports of the woman’s sudden death. Officers are treating the case as suspicious pending a Home Office post-mortem scheduled for Sunday, March 2.
The suspect is currently being held at Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre, where detectives are questioning him.
A spokesperson for Suffolk Police confirmed that the victim and the man arrested were known to each other and reassured the public that this is an isolated incident.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances of this tragic incident. We urge anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist us,” the spokesperson said.
Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Investigation Team, quoting reference 37/11396/25. Calls can be made to 101, reports submitted online via the Suffolk Police website, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online.
Forensic teams remain at the scene as detectives continue to investigate the cause of the woman’s death. Officials will release more details following the post-mortem examination.
