A Croydon man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison following a brutal attack on his ex-partner. Racine Ndiaye, 43, was convicted at Woolwich Crown Court on Friday, 4 May, for a violent home invasion that caused serious injuries to his former partner.
On 21 November 2017, Ndiaye initially threatened his ex-wife at her front door, shouting that he would kill her. Fearing for her safety, she contacted the police, but Ndiaye fled the scene before officers arrived.
Several hours later, Ndiaye returned and forced entry into the property by breaking a window. He then grabbed a kitchen knife and pursued the woman upstairs. She locked herself in the bathroom and attempted to escape by climbing out of the window. Ndiaye kicked down the bathroom door, seized her as she hung from the window ledge, causing her to fall and break her ankle.
The attack continued outside, where Ndiaye punched and kicked the victim despite bystanders’ efforts to intervene.
Ndiaye fled the scene but was apprehended and charged later that same day. The victim sustained significant facial injuries along with a broken ankle.
He was found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, burglary, and assault.
Detective Constable Milo Horvath of Croydon CID commented, “This lengthy sentence reflects how seriously police and the courts take vicious attacks such as this. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure violent individuals such as Ndiaye are placed before the courts.”
In addition to his prison sentence, Ndiaye has been issued a restraining order to protect the victim.
