A 37-year-old man from Reading has been sentenced to more than five years in prison after a violent sexual assault investigation conducted by Thames Valley Police.
Ade Jerry, who lives on Iliffe Close, Reading, was given a prison term of five years and four months at Reading Crown Court on Friday, 14 June. The sentence followed a unanimous jury verdict on Thursday, 7 February, after a ten-day trial.
The assault occurred at approximately 3.30am on 24 March 2018, when a woman in her twenties was attacked inside a property on Friar Street in Reading. The case has now reached a conclusion with the offender being brought to justice.
Detective Constable James Woodcock from Reading police station praised the victim’s bravery, stating, “I would like to pay tribute to the victim in this case, who has bravely given evidence in court and assisted with the investigation.”
He added, “Thames Valley Police takes all reports of sexual assault incredibly seriously and will thoroughly investigate to bring offenders like Jerry to court to face justice.”
“We urge anyone who is a victim of sexual assault to come forward. All reports are handled with the utmost sensitivity by specially trained officers ready to provide help and support.”
This conviction sends a strong message that sexual offenders will face the full force of the law in Reading and surrounding areas.
