Bobby Sutherland, a 19-year-old from Terry Street, Hull, has been sentenced to six years behind bars following a brutal bag snatch on Sunday, 20 September. The violent robbery took place on Stroud Crescent East in Bransholme, where Sutherland targeted an 86-year-old woman.

At Hull Crown Court, Sutherland admitted to snatching the elderly woman’s bag directly from her shoulder. During the attack, he shoved her to the ground, dragged her along the pavement, and left her injured in the street.

Detective Sergeant Andy Bradley praised the victim’s bravery, stating, “I must commend the bravery of the lady who fell victim to this disgraceful attack. She tried to fight off Sutherland despite how intent he was on taking what didn’t belong to him.”

He added, “I know how much of an impact this has had on her and I hope knowing he is now in prison and unable to do anything like this again brings a small bit of comfort.”

Detective Sergeant Bradley further emphasized, “It is clear that this was a targeted attack on a vulnerable person for personal gain.”

“Acts like these are absolutely inexcusable and will not be tolerated in our communities,” he concluded.
