A convicted murderer has been sentenced to extra jail time following a brutal attack on a prison officer at HMP Whitemoor.
Moustapha Dia, 28, launched a savage assault around 2pm on 19 October 2024 at the maximum security prison near March. While a prison officer was locking up a wing, Dia whispered to him before suddenly attacking.
Dia threw the officer into a headlock and repeatedly stabbed him in the head, face, and neck with a homemade plastic knife. The violent attack only ended when other officers intervened, tackling and disarming Dia.
The injured officer was taken to Peterborough City Hospital, where he was treated for a concussion and multiple cuts and deep lacerations to his face and neck.
Dia denied the charges during his appearance at Huntingdon Law Courts in January but was found guilty of possessing an offensive weapon and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
On Thursday, 12 March, the court sentenced Dia to an additional four years to be added to his life sentence for the murder of his sister-in-law.
