The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has postponed all football matches set for Saturday, 7 December, due to the approaching Storm Darragh. This decision follows urgent warnings issued by The Met Office about the severe weather conditions expected across Wales.
The Met Office has issued Red, Amber, and Yellow warnings for most parts of Wales ahead of Storm Darragh. The storm is forecast to bring furious winds and relentless rain, posing serious risks to life and safety. As a result, officials have cancelled all scheduled football games to protect players, staff, and supporters.
Authorities have strongly advised against travel and urged everyone to remain indoors to avoid injury. A spokesperson said, “Travel is strongly discouraged. Everyone should stay indoors to avoid injury. The storm’s brutal winds and heavy downpours make it impossible to hold safe sporting events.”
The cancellations affect key fixtures across the Welsh football pyramid, including matches in the JD Cymru South, JD Cymru Premier, and JD Cymru North leagues.
JD Cymru South Postponed Matches:
- Caerau Ely vs Pontypridd United
- Llanelli Town vs Trethomas Bluebirds
- Carmarthen Town vs Taffs Well
- Llantwit Major vs Penrhiwceiber Rangers
- Ammanford vs Afan Lido
- Cambrian United vs Baglan Dragons
JD Cymru Premier Postponed Matches:
- Aberystwyth Town vs Caernarfon Town
- Cardiff Met vs Flint Town United
- Penybont vs Connah’s Quay Nomads
- The New Saints vs Newtown
- Bala Town vs Barry Town United
JD Cymru North Postponed Matches:
- Airbus UK Broughton vs Caersws
- Flint Mountain vs Guilsfield
- Llay Miners Welfare vs Bangor 1876
- Penrhyncoch vs Buckley Town
Clubs have been advised to secure any loose equipment such as bins, furniture, goalposts, and fencing around their grounds if it can be done safely before the storm arrives.
The FAW has promised to announce new dates for the postponed fixtures in the coming weeks. Supporters are encouraged to monitor official club channels and FAW updates for the latest information.
Above all, the public is urged to stay safe and follow all weather warnings issued by the authorities.
