A major emergency response is currently underway at Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, following an incident near the Wightlink Ferry Terminal and Yarmouth Lifeboat Station this lunchtime.
At approximately 1:45pm on Tuesday, August 5, emergency services including at least two paramedic vehicles, an ambulance, and a police car arrived at the scene. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance also landed on Yarmouth Green, located just opposite the harbour, about 20 minutes after the initial response.
While the exact details of the incident remain unclear, the scale of the emergency response suggests a serious medical emergency or accident at the waterfront area.
Despite the ongoing situation, Wightlink ferry services are continuing to operate. However, passengers should expect delays as emergency crews work around the terminal. Travellers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to follow instructions from ferry staff and emergency personnel.
Police have cordoned off the harbour and ferry terminal to enable emergency teams to work safely. The public is urged to avoid the area where possible to prevent disruption and to assist emergency responders.
Authorities including Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and the South Central Ambulance Service have been contacted for official statements. Updates will be provided as the situation develops.
