London is preparing for a busy Saturday with multiple demonstrations, football matches, and events taking place across the capital. More than 1,600 police officers, including 500 reinforcements from outside forces, will be deployed to maintain order and public safety.

A large police presence of around 1,000 officers will oversee two major protests in central London. The first protest is the controversial ‘Unite the Kingdom’ march, led by Stephen Yaxley Lennon, also known as Tommy Robinson. The march begins at 11am from Stamford Street near the IMAX roundabout, proceeds along 1 Road, crosses Westminster Bridge, and concludes with a rally at the southern end of Whitehall.

Opposing this demonstration is the Stand Up To Racism counter-protest, which starts at midday in Russell Square. Protesters will march via Kingsway, Aldwych, and the Strand, gathering at the northern end of Whitehall for their rally.

The Metropolitan Police are implementing extensive security measures to prevent clashes between the two groups. Barriers will be installed to create a safety buffer, and officers will be positioned strategically to quickly respond to any signs of disorder. Strict conditions under the Public Order Act are in place to minimise disruption.

Commander Clair Haynes, who is leading the operation, said: “This will be a very busy day… We have a detailed plan to keep the public safe.” She commended the officers involved and emphasised the importance of respecting local communities during the events.

London’s Muslim communities have expressed concerns regarding the ‘Unite the Kingdom’ rally. Commander Haynes urged everyone to feel safe while travelling in the city and reassured that officers are present to protect all residents and visitors.

All participants in the protests are required to follow the designated routes and areas. Those who disregard the Public Order Act conditions risk arrest as police maintain strict control to ensure a peaceful day.
