Police arrested a man after a gun was fired between cars in Aylesbury, prompting an attempted murder investigation. The incident occurred late on Friday, 24 May, in Church Square.
Just after 10:15pm, officers responded to reports that a gun had been fired from a vehicle carrying three people at another car with one occupant. Fortunately, no one was hit during the shooting, but both vehicles fled the scene.
The two cars later crashed in nearby Hampden Gardens. Following the collision, a 26-year-old man was violently assaulted and taken to hospital with critical injuries. Police have confirmed that no firearm was believed to have been used during this second incident.
A 54-year-old man has been taken into custody and charged with attempted murder. Officers continue to search for the missing gun and are seeking to speak with two additional individuals thought to have been in one of the vehicles involved.
Road closures remain in place across Church Square, Hampden Gardens, 1 Avenue, Carrington Road, and Chaloner Road as police maintain a scene watch and conduct a thorough search for evidence.
Inspector Andrew Alexander of Aylesbury police said, “We’ve made an arrest but the investigation is far from over. If you have information, please get in touch. Also, if you saw a silver BMW 330i or a silver Nissan Almera around the area before the incident, we want to hear from you.” Call 101 quoting URN 1618 24/5.
Local Police Commander Superintendent Tim Metcalfe added, “We know the public will be worried. We believe these offences are linked but there is no wider threat. You’ll see more officers in the area as we investigate. Please speak to them if you have any concerns.”
