Thieves struck at the crack of dawn on October 11, targeting vital signalling cables around Shenfield Station. The brazen theft, reported at 5am, has brought train services between Shenfield, Romford, and London to a complete halt.
All lines at Shenfield Station remain blocked, causing widespread delays and cancellations. National Rail has warned that disruption will continue at least until 12.30pm, leaving many commuters stranded and frustrated.
Network Rail and British Transport Police teams quickly responded to the incident, working to replace the stolen cables. However, no confirmed time for the resumption of normal services has been announced yet.
The Elizabeth line service has been reduced to operate only between Heathrow Airport, London Paddington, and Gidea Park. Key stations including Harold Wood, Brentwood, and Shenfield are currently inaccessible by train.
In response to the disruption, National Rail has removed all ticket restrictions for October 11. Additionally, tickets will be valid on Greater Anglia services without extra charges on October 12.

- c2c trains between London Fenchurch Street / West Ham and Southend Central
- Great Northern and Thameslink services from London Kings Cross to Hertford North and Ely Central
- Connect buses on route 12 between Wickford and Billericay

- Circle line trains between Liverpool Street and Tower Hill (for London Fenchurch Street)
- Jubilee line trains between Stratford and West Ham
