Kenneth Andrew McDermid, 43, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility in connection with the death of Ann Wendy Morse last year.

Ann Wendy Morse, known as Wendy, was found dead at her home on Tunstall Road, Knypersley, shortly after 7pm on Sunday 22 March 2020.

Following the incident, McDermid, who also uses the name Kyle McKenzie and resides on Rosemary Place, Sneyd Green, fled to Sweden. He was located and arrested there a week later.

McDermid entered his guilty plea during a hearing at Stafford Crown Court on Tuesday 9 March 2021. Sentencing is scheduled for the week beginning 12 April 2021.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Cheryl Hannan said: “We are happy that with this plea the defendant has taken responsibility for his actions and hope this goes some way to giving the family some closure after what has been a truly difficult year for them.”

She added, “I’d like to thank the family for their support and courage during our investigation and express gratitude to Swedish authorities and the Crown Prosecution Service for their help in detaining McDermid last March.”

“We now hope the sentence will reflect his actions and keep communities safe.”
