Lewis Wood, a 42-year-old former Avon and Somerset police officer, has admitted to three counts of misconduct in public office. Wood shared disturbing images and videos from police incidents with his family and friends, including some showing a deceased man.

Wood’s police career ended in 2021 after these revelations came to light. Assistant Chief Constable Joanne Hall condemned his actions, stating, “Lewis Wood’s decision to wilfully share sensitive images and videos to friends and family violated the trust members of the public put in him and us. His actions not only fell significantly below the standards we expect of officers but were criminal.”

ACC Hall acknowledged that Wood’s behaviour has severely damaged public confidence in the police, despite him no longer serving. The Counter Corruption Unit and Crown Prosecution Service conducted a thorough investigation, which resulted in strong charges and Wood’s guilty pleas at Exeter Crown Court on December 1.

Wood, who is from Bridgwater, is scheduled to be sentenced at Exeter Crown Court on Friday, February 9.
