A man has been sentenced to more than four years in prison following the seizure of heroin and monkey dust valued at over £2,000 in Stoke-on-Trent.

Leon Sedgwick, aged 33, from Wigston, Leicestershire, was stopped by police officers on Covent Close in January 2022. During the stop, a search uncovered a zip-bag containing heroin and monkey dust worth approximately £1,100, as well as 13 wraps of heroin, a mobile phone, and £470 in cash.

Following this initial arrest, police conducted a search of a Stoke-on-Trent address linked to Sedgwick. The search revealed drug scales and additional mobile phones, strengthening the case against him.

In March 2023, officers returned to another address in Stoke-on-Trent where Sedgwick was present. They discovered a bag containing heroin and monkey dust valued at over £1,160, along with cash and drug scales.

Sedgwick admitted to possession with intent to supply heroin and class B drugs, as well as involvement in offering these substances. On Friday, 19 January, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court sentenced him to four-and-a-half years imprisonment and imposed a £190 surcharge.

PC Ian Prendergast stated: “Sedgwick was intent on distributing harmful drugs within our communities. We’re pleased he’s been caught and another dealer tackled in Staffordshire.”

He added, “Officers across the force are committed to proactively targeting drug supply and will continue acting on intelligence and public reports to bring offenders to justice.”

This enforcement is part of Operation Target, a police initiative aimed at combating serious and organised crime. The operation focuses on groups involved in county lines, drug distribution, illegal firearms, and sexual exploitation.
