A reckless driver high on cocaine and cannabis caused a serious head-on collision in Sevenoaks and has now been sentenced to two years in jail.

Aurimas Stipinas, 26, lost control of his Citroen Picasso on a bend at Rushmore Hill, Sevenoaks. His car crossed onto the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with a Fiat 500, leaving the woman driving the Fiat with serious back injuries.

Stipinas and his passenger also suffered leg injuries in the crash, which occurred around 4pm on 8 February 2020.

Witnesses reported seeing Stipinas speeding, overtaking dangerously, and weaving across lanes before the collision. A roadside drug test revealed he was driving under the influence of cocaine and cannabis, well above legal limits. He was also uninsured at the time.

Stipinas, from Islington, London, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, two counts of driving with drugs above the legal limit, and driving without insurance.

Maidstone Crown Court sentenced him to two years in prison and imposed a three-year driving ban. Before he can drive again, Stipinas must pass an extended driving test.

PC Belinda Croft said: “Stipinas’ irresponsible behaviour could have easily ended in death. Both his passenger and the other driver were seriously hurt. The blood test results are horrifying. He showed no regard for anyone’s safety — a jail term was the only option.”
