Six fire engines and approximately 40 firefighters responded to a major fire at a disused pub on High Road, Chadwell Heath. The two-storey building was largely destroyed by the blaze, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The fire was first spotted by a passing bus driver who quickly alerted Transport for London (TfL). TfL then contacted the fire brigade, enabling a swift emergency response.

Fire crews arrived to find thick smoke spreading across the road. The fire had rapidly spread from the corner of the roof, engulfing most of the building. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours, using drones to gain a bird’s-eye view and better coordinate their efforts to control the fire.

The London Fire Brigade’s investigation team was unable to determine the cause of the fire due to the extensive damage sustained by the building.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said, “Always call 999 first if you see a fire or an emergency situation – so that we can get to it quickly and save lives. Alert other authorities or property owners afterwards.”

The alarm was raised at 4:47 am, and the fire was brought under control by 7:17 am. Fire crews from Dagenham, Ilford, Romford, Hainault, Barking, and East Ham stations all joined the operation to tackle the blaze.
