Emergency services were called to the M3 at 1.27pm following a serious crash involving a blue Peugeot 207. The vehicle veered off the northbound carriageway near the 1 service station and ended up at the bottom of a roadside verge, prompting a major incident response.
One of the two northbound lanes remains closed as crews work to manage the scene. The lane closure has caused significant traffic congestion and long delays. Police have urged motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes immediately to ease the disruption.
The driver, a woman in her 60s, sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. She was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Police have informed her next of kin about the incident.
