Anthony Nurse, a 31-year-old man from Liverpool, has been sentenced to six weeks in prison following a vicious attack on a seagull in Blackpool. The incident took place in December last year and was captured on CCTV.
The footage reveals Nurse kicking a group of seagulls on Springfield Road before trapping one bird underfoot and stamping on it three times. The seagull later died from its injuries sustained during the attack.
The CCTV evidence was handed over to the RSPCA, who appealed to the public for help in identifying the attacker. Nurse was quickly identified and brought before Preston Magistrates Court.
At the court hearing, Nurse pleaded guilty to breaching the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. He was sentenced to six weeks imprisonment. This sentence was in addition to an earlier arrest for unrelated offences.
This case highlights the serious consequences of animal cruelty and sends a strong message that such behaviour will not be tolerated on UK streets.
