Daniel Black, 37, a former soldier from Hull, has been sentenced to seven years in prison following a brutal attack at a woman’s home in Nuneaton. The incident occurred in March 2023 when Black spent an evening with the victim before taking her back to her residence, where he raped and sexually assaulted her.
The victim showed remarkable bravery by reporting the crime to Warwickshire Police, who acted quickly to arrest Black. During the investigation, Black was medically discharged from the Armed Forces.
Despite denying all charges, Black was charged with rape and assault by penetration of a female over 13. The case proceeded to trial in September 2023, where the jury found him unanimously guilty on both counts.
On 12 December, at Birmingham Crown Court, Black was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for rape and an additional four years for assault, with the sentences to run concurrently. The judge also issued an indefinite restraining order, preventing Black from contacting the victim in the future.
Furthermore, Black will remain on the sex offender register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring after his release from prison.
