Gavin Lancell, 54, of Bramham Grove in York, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for a series of historic child sex offences committed during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The case involved multiple victims and was prosecuted by police and the Crown Prosecution Service after extensive investigations and court hearings.

During a two-week trial held in July 2025 at Hull Crown Court, Lancell was found guilty of 20 counts of sexual offences against two children, despite pleading not guilty. He was initially sentenced to 28 years in prison and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

While serving his sentence, a third victim came forward, resulting in additional charges. In April 2026, Lancell pleaded guilty to indecent assault and sexual intercourse with a girl under 13. Consequently, on 11 May 2026, the court extended his prison sentence by two years.

The sentencing demonstrates the commitment of authorities in York to seek justice for historic abuse cases and to protect vulnerable victims. Police and the Crown Prosecution Service praised the courage of those who came forward and the thoroughness of the investigation that led to Lancell’s conviction and extended sentence.
