Police were scrambled at 9.10pm on Tuesday, 30 March after reports of a violent fight between three men on Alpha Road, Croydon. Officers arrived to find one man stabbed and paramedics rushed to the scene. Despite their desperate efforts, the man died at the scene.
Detectives believe the victim to be 23-year-old Reece Young. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Two men fled the scene in a car before police arrived. They later showed up at a south London hospital with stab wounds, believed to be linked to the same incident.
Police arrested both men on suspicion of murder. The first, aged 33, remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The second, in his 30s, attacked police and NHS staff after arrest and escaped from the hospital.
Police are urgently hunting for the second suspect, who needs medical attention.
Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the probe. Detective Chief Inspector Richard Vandenbergh said: “This all started at a small vigil for another stabbing victim. Some people have spoken to us, but I believe others caught footage of the brawl. We need those witnesses to come forward now.”
“One suspect is in custody. We’re working to find the second man, who is injured and must get medical help immediately.”
A crime scene remains in place as inquiries continue.
