A transgender teenager was brutally stabbed 14 times at a birthday party in Harrow, sparking a serious investigation and charges against the accused. The incident occurred during a roller-skating party where the victim was targeted with transphobic abuse before the attack.

On February 13, 19-year-old Summer Betts-Ramsey appeared at Willesden Magistrates’ Court charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in public. The victim, an 18-year-old transgender girl, was found with multiple stab wounds on Masons Avenue at around 7pm on the previous Saturday.

Emergency services quickly responded and took the victim to hospital, where she was treated and later discharged. Despite her recovery, the emotional trauma from the attack is expected to have lasting effects.

During the court hearing, prosecutor Bunsri Bhuwa confirmed the victim’s gender identity and described the transphobic slurs that preceded the violent assault. Betts-Ramsey, who appeared visibly emotional, confirmed her identity and Cricklewood address. She will remain in custody until her plea hearing at the Old Bailey on March 12. Before returning to her cell, she requested to speak with her mother, saying, “I love you.”

Following the attack, four people have been arrested as the Metropolitan Police stepped up patrols in the Harrow area. Detective Inspector Nicola Hannant stated, “This was a shocking and violent attack. We continue to support the victim and her family as she recovers. We are working tirelessly to identify those responsible and are making good progress.”

Police are urging anyone with information about the assault to come forward. Residents concerned about safety or with relevant details are encouraged to contact officers. Information can be reported by calling 101 and quoting reference 6306/10Feb or by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

This brutal assault highlights the urgent need to address hate crimes, particularly those targeting vulnerable communities. It is a call for society to unite against violence and discrimination in all its forms.
