Horse owners in North Nottinghamshire have been left shocked after Alfie, a 16-year-old traditional tri-coloured cob, was found dead and mutilated in a field near Worksop.
The grim discovery took place at a property off Owday Lane, Carlton-in-Lindrick, on Thursday morning, 25 July, at approximately 10:30am. Alfie was last seen in good health by his owner the previous evening around 7pm.
The brutal attack has caused deep concern within the local community.
Nottinghamshire Police, led by Chief Inspector Clive Collings, an expert in rural and wildlife crime, have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage, conducting forensic examinations, and carrying out door-to-door inquiries to gather any relevant information.
Chief Inspector Collings described the attack as “a sickening, heartless assault on a defenseless animal.” He urged anyone with information to come forward and assist the investigation.
The police are particularly interested in any doorbell camera footage or reports of suspicious activity occurring between 7pm on Wednesday, 24 July, and 10:30am on Thursday, 25 July.
Authorities have issued a warning to horse owners in the area, advising them to remain vigilant and take extra precautions to protect their animals.
