A massive woodland fire erupted near Park Lane in Hawkhurst, Cranbrook this evening, prompting a swift and serious response from Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
Fire crews were dispatched at 6:29pm with five fire engines and a bulk water carrier. Equipped with specialist tools such as beaters, drag rakes, and powerful water jets, firefighters battled the blaze for several hours, finally bringing it under control just before midnight.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as firefighters tackled the blaze. Crews remain on site dampening hotspots to prevent any flare-ups.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, with investigations expected to continue into Wednesday.
This incident comes amid a recent surge in rural and woodland fires across Kent, driven by a spell of hot, dry weather. Residents in Tunbridge Wells and Cranbrook are urged to stay vigilant and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.
Authorities advise avoiding discarding cigarettes or glass in wooded areas. If you spot flames or smoke in the countryside, call 999 and ask for Fire and Rescue without delay.
Updates will be provided as the situation develops.
