Police have charged Nicholas Anthony Steel, 57, with the murder of his mother, 79-year-old Mary Steel, after a tragic incident in Farncombe, Godalming.

Paramedics were called to a property in Wey Court at around 9.20am on Sunday, 29 October following concerns for Mary Steel’s safety. She was found with a serious injury and, despite emergency treatment at the scene, was pronounced dead just before 10.15am.

Nicholas Steel, from Meadrow, was initially arrested on suspicion of assault. He was admitted to hospital but has since been transferred to police custody. He is due to appear at Guildford Magistrates Court on 4 November 2017.

This heartbreaking case has shaken the local community, as police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mary Steel’s death.
