The four victims of a deadly crash on the A40 just west of Oxford have been formally named. Zoe Powell, 29, from Chinnor, along with her three children — Phoebe, 8, Simeon, 6, and Amelia, 4 — tragically lost their lives in the horror collision.
The crash occurred at around 9.50pm on Monday, 12 October, involving a silver Subaru and a white HGV.
Two other passengers in the Subaru survived but sustained serious injuries. Josh Powell, 30, a passenger, and his 18-month-old daughter remain in stable condition at John Radcliffe Hospital. Their names have been withheld for privacy reasons.
Sergeant Dominic Mahon of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit paid tribute to those involved in the response and investigation. He said: “Thank you to all who came forward with witness statements and helped at the scene. I pay tribute to officers, ambulance crews, fire services, hospital staff, and the Thames Valley Air Ambulance team who attended this tragic incident.”
He added: “We also thank Dr Wassim Shamsuddin from Milton Keynes University Hospital for rushing to help. The Powell family has expressed their gratitude for the support received.”
Sergeant Mahon urged the public to respect the ongoing investigation and the family’s privacy at this difficult time. “No arrests have been made and speculation only causes distress. We urge everyone to respect the ongoing investigation and the family’s privacy at this difficult time.”
He confirmed that the HGV driver has co-operated fully with police and provided a witness statement. “We continue to support all involved.”
This tragedy has deeply affected the entire community from Chinnor to wider Oxfordshire and beyond.
