Two people are fighting to recover after a nasty two-vehicle crash on the A31 northbound just outside Ringwood this afternoon.
Retained fire crews from Ringwood, Burley, and Fordingbridge rushed to the scene at just after 4.30pm following a collision involving a car and a pick-up truck.
A specialist Rescue Support unit from Redbridge joined the rescue, using cutting tools to literally remove the roofs of both vehicles. The daring move was needed to reach the trapped drivers, who both suffered possible spinal injuries.
Paramedics from South Central Ambulance treated the injured on-site before rushing them to Southampton General Hospital for further care.
One lane remains shut on the northbound carriageway as crews work to clear the wreckage. Drivers face long delays and stop-start traffic stretches back for miles.
