On 13 August 2024, Declan George-Candiani, aged 26 and from Streatham, was apprehended during a routine Schedule 7 stop at Stansted Airport. Authorities seized his phone and accessed its contents, revealing extremist right-wing material.

A subsequent search of George-Candiani’s home uncovered an iPad containing terror guides, including detailed instructions on how to carry out ‘lone wolf’ attacks.

During interviews, George-Candiani admitted to immersing himself in radical content after becoming involved with a group advocating “traditional Satanism.” He described having a “possessed mindset” and claimed to have made a “pact with the devil” to become a “minion.” He acknowledged that his obsession was “unhealthy” and had escalated beyond control.

Commander Dominic Murphy of the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command stated, “This case proves why Schedule 7 stop powers are crucial for nabbing potential terrorists. We found horrific right-wing terrorist content and dangerous attack guides.”

On 3 October, the Old Bailey found Declan George-Candiani guilty on two counts of collecting terrorist material under the Terrorism Act 2000. He was acquitted of two additional charges. Sentencing is scheduled for 28 November.

Commander Murphy also addressed concerns within London’s Jewish community following a recent attack. He assured the public of increased police patrols and urged everyone to remain vigilant yet calm. “If you see suspicious behaviour, trust your instincts. Report anonymously on 0800 789 321 or online at www.gov.uk/ACT,” he advised.
