Tragic E-Scooter Death Shakes Portsmouth Community
A 59-year-old man has died after his e-scooter collided with a van in Cosham, leaving locals devastated.
Fatal Smash at Busy Junction
Police rushed to the scene between 4.10pm and 4.20pm on Friday, 27 February, responding to reports of a crash at Medina Road and Sixth Avenue. A white Ford Transit Tipper van struck the e-scooter rider, identified as John Smith from Portsmouth.
John was seriously injured and taken to hospital but sadly passed away soon after.
Fiancée Mourns Beloved ‘Rock’ John
“John was my rock and the kindest man I have ever met,” said his heartbroken fiancée. “He loved Portsmouth Football Club, followed Luke Littler’s career closely, and had a passion for Ska music. His sudden death has left a massive hole in my heart.”
“John was known for his generosity in the community, always chatting to neighbours and bringing treats to local dogs and cats. He was a devoted son and older brother and spent a decade working alongside his father.”
Van Driver Arrested and Released on Bail
The 37-year-old van driver from Portsmouth was arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving, drug driving, driving without a licence, and without insurance. He has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
Police Launch Appeal for Witnesses
Officers urge anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam footage to come forward.
