The Belfast-based crime drama is back in action with major filming underway.

Filming Starts with a Bang

Fans don’t have to wait long! After the thrilling finale of Blue Lights series three on November 3, 2025, producers confirmed the show is already rolling on series four. Richard Dormer is back as Gerry Cliff, with the script read through held in January. Filming officially began in Belfast in early February, with production company Two Cities Television sharing a behind-the-scenes snap of the clapperboard dated 2nd February. Their caption hyped it as “the most incredible series yet.”

The Cast & Crew Speak Out

Co-creators Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson teased that this season dives into “dark secrets” and explores “what justice looks like in Belfast today.” They promise a gripping story weaving the past, present, and futures of favourite characters Grace, Annie, and Tommy. Director Angela Griffin gave an update after week one, saying, “It’s cold, it’s windy, it’s rainy and it’s cold. But it’s brilliant. Firmly back in the saddle and loving it… Roll on week 2.”

Filming Progress & Location

While filming isn’t 100% wrapped, the first block is done. Angela Griffin celebrated the milestone on Instagram, praising her crew’s hard work and legendary dance moves at the halfway wrap party. As ever, Blue Lights keeps it local, filming around Belfast and Northern Ireland. The BBC recently released photos from the script read-through, showing main stars Siân Brooke, Martin McCann, Katherine Devlin, and Richard Dormer ready to roll.
