Two drunken 19-year-olds wreaked havoc at a Bournemouth hotel after being told to leave. Now, Kera McKeown and Larisa Sumovskaja face a six-month nationwide ban from all pubs, bars, nightclubs, and hotels – unless it’s for work.
Vodka Bottle, Fire Extinguisher & Flying Vases: Mayhem at Trouville Hotel
On April 19 last year, chaos erupted at the Trouville Hotel. CCTV shows McKeown, the ringleader, wielding a vodka bottle in one hand and her high heels in the other, smashing a back office door where receptionist Signe Ivane desperately locked herself in.
McKeown spat at the receptionist twice and hurled vases, a computer screen, and even a phone – which hit a male staffer on the head.
Sumovskaja grabbed a fire extinguisher aiming to spray someone for a laugh, but McKeown lobbed it at the hotel staff instead.
Judge Rages at “Disgraceful” Behaviour, Warns Jail If It Happens Again
District Judge Orla Austin slammed their drunken rampage as “disgraceful.” She spared them jail but handed down suspended 12-week sentences. Both women were slapped with a six-month nationwide ban from all pubs, bars, nightclubs, and hotels.
“I recognise your social life is going to be significantly curtailed but that’s the punishment so don’t take any chances,” Judge Austin warned.
They must also cough up £350 each in compensation. Plus, Sumovskaja faces mandatory rehab and mental health sessions.
History of Violence and Mayhem
- Just five weeks earlier, Sumovskaja and a mate attacked nightclub staff after being kicked out for being drunk.
- Two months prior, the pair bashed a taxi driver and fled without paying – later boasting about it on social media.
Prosecutor Tara Olney revealed the hotel suffered £4,000 worth of damage, including guest refunds and lost bookings after scathing online reviews. Staff took time off due to stress, and workplace morale nose-dived amid safety fears.
Defence Claims Mental Health Struggles and Youth
McKeown’s lawyer painted her as a young, foolish woman battling mental health issues and neurodiversity – who deeply regrets her actions.
Sumovskaja’s lawyer said she struggled at school and is vulnerable, but “has turned a corner” and promises not to reoffend.
Their friend, Jasmine Orchard, who was dragged into the trouble, received a 12-month conditional discharge after the court accepted she played only a minor role and caused no damage.
One thing’s clear – cause chaos in UK pubs or hotels, and you’ll face brutal nationwide bans. So, enjoy your drinks, but don’t be THAT customer smashing up reception!
