Derby Horror: Car Ploughs into Crowds on Friar Gate

Chaos erupted in Derby city centre Saturday night when a black Suzuki Swift rammed into pedestrians on busy Friar Gate. The shocking crash around 9.30pm left seven victims seriously injured.

All were rushed to hospital with serious, but thankfully non-life-threatening, wounds, Derbyshire Police confirmed.

Man Arrested and Charged with Attempted Murder

A 36-year-old Derby man, originally from India, was arrested at the scene. He now faces multiple charges, including:

  • Attempted murder
  • Dangerous driving causing serious injury
  • Grievous bodily harm with intent

Counter Terrorism Steps In—No Terror Link Confirmed Yet

Counter terrorism officers have joined the probe, scouring the scene for clues. But police are keeping an open mind on the motive and stress the incident is not officially being treated as terrorism.
