Small Boat Migrants Slip Through Channel with Shocking Secret
Two Eritrean men, Awedin Fikak and Henok Tekleab, both 27, sailed across the English Channel on 5 October 2024. They were granted asylum and given taxpayer-funded benefits and homes — all while wanted for a horrific gang rape in Denmark.
Danish Police Warned Months Before
In September 2024, Danish police issued an international alert with photos of the two men. They were linked to a brutal August attack in Aarhus, where a 37-year-old woman was held captive for six hours and gang-raped by three men. The horrifying assault was even filmed.
UK Authorities Unaware, Benefits Paid Out
A third suspect, aged 33 and also Eritrean, was already jailed in Denmark for the crime. UK officials were unaware of the Danish alert when the men applied for asylum, so benefits and housing were automatically awarded.
Later, UK police arrested Fikak and Tekleab. Tekleab was extradited in February 2026, with Fikak caught in Birmingham and sent back more recently.
“The Home Office admitted it did not know about the Danish alert when the men entered the asylum system,” officials confirmed.
