Fan Banned for Three Years After Pitch Invasion Sparks Chaos at Reading Game
A football fan faces a hefty punishment after storming the pitch during the League One clash between Reading FC and Barnsley FC on 24 January 2026.
Reilly Wood Hit with Three-Year Ban and Fine
Reilly Wood, 25, from Bournemouth, pleaded guilty at Reading Magistrates’ Court on 24 February 2026 to illegally entering the pitch. He was slapped with a three-year football banning order, a £120 fine, plus £85 in court costs.
The banning order stops Wood from attending regulated matches and even restricts his travel during major football events like this summer’s FIFA 2026 World Cup.
Pitch Invasion Sparks Trouble Among Away Fans
During the match at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, Wood ran onto the pitch and targeted away supporters, making provocative gestures that stirred up trouble among fans.
He was arrested on the day and charged the very next day.
Police Warn: Pitch Invasions Won’t Be Tolerated
“A pitch invasion is not a harmless act – it is dangerous, irresponsible and puts players, staff and supporters at risk. This behaviour has absolutely no place in football,” said Dedicated Football Officer PC Steve Mountain.
“Wood has now been issued with a football banning order, which prevents him from attending regulated fixtures, and puts restrictions on travel during major international football events, like the FIFA 2026 World Cup this summer.
“Let this serve as a clear warning: anyone who chooses to break the law or fuel disorder at football matches will be identified, arrested, and put before the courts to face the full consequences of their actions.
“Football should be a safe and enjoyable environment for all. We will continue to work closely with clubs to identify offenders and take robust action against anyone who threatens the safety and experience of genuine supporters.”
