Oxford United confirmed the heartbreaking news on Sunday (8 March). The club said: “It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of 15-year-old Academy player, Amelia Aplin.”

The club offered condolences, stating: “Our thoughts and condolences are with Amelia’s family, friends, teammates and coaches.”

The upcoming game between Oxford United Women and Real Bedford has been postponed out of respect.

Oxford United also praised the medical staff at both clubs and the emergency services for their efforts during the incident. They said support would be provided to those affected by this tragic event.
