Pharmacists in Berkshire and across the UK have raised the alarm over looming medicine shortages sparked by the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Global Supply Chains on the Brink
The Independent Pharmacies Association (IPA) warns that turmoil abroad is hitting vital drug supply lines. Raw materials for medicines risk becoming “harder to source” amid soaring energy costs, transport chaos, and shipping delays.
“While no immediate crisis is here yet, the global nature of supply means conflicts far away can trigger knock-on effects at home,” the IPA said.
Patients Urged to Stock Up Early
Pharmacies are already struggling with supply problems. The IPA cautions that ongoing instability could mean longer waits for prescriptions. Patients should order repeat meds early and speak to their pharmacist about any concerns.
