Sussex Police have spoken out after a chaotic protest hit Brighton city centre on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Rival groups clashed in the busy hub, forcing officers to step in and keep the peace.
Two Arrests Made — Then Dropped
A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence during the protest. But police later released him after clearing him of wrongdoing. A 66-year-old man from London was also arrested over allegations of common assault. Yet he too was quickly de-arrested following further investigation.
Loud Hailer Woman Faces Police Scrutiny
Reports emerged of a woman leading chants through a loudspeaker at the protest. Police flagged concerns over some of her language, suggesting it could harm local communities. The force is now probing if any laws were broken.
Investigation Still Active
Sussex Police confirmed the investigation is ongoing. They vowed anyone found guilty of criminal offences will be held to account. Meanwhile, officers will keep a close watch on Brighton’s city centre to prevent further unrest.
